Nelson Albano
Assemblyman Nelson Albano
A passionate voice for victims, Nelson has dedicated his career to serving the public.

Nelson AlbanoOne terrible day, Nelson received a phone call that changed his life. His 19 year-old son, Michael, was killed by a drunk driver. Worse still, the driver had already collected a string of convictions. He focused his grief on making positive changes in New Jersey by working with Jeff Van Drew to pass Michael’s Law, which stiffened penalties for repeat drunk drivers.

In the Assembly, Nelson continues to stand up for victims' rights and protect South Jersey taxpayers, even if it means standing up to his own party. He is a tireless advocate for children, working families and victim's rights. The New Jersey Association of Crime Victims Advocates has honored him for his work on equal justice, and in 2004 he was named Citizen of the Year for the City of Vineland in recognition for his hard work, personal integrity and dedication to helping others.

He has received awards from the Senate and the Assembly for work he’s done toeducate students about drunk driving, and is an active volunteer with the Gabriel Project, which helps severely sick children from around the world come to the United States for heart surgery.

A Vineland native, Nelson graduated from Sacred Heart High School before attending Cumberland County Vocational Technical School. A member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union for 28 years, Nelson is shop steward at Village Supermarkets in Vineland.
